NEWS FROM WATERHOUSES

My own Christmas news is rather second-hand but I gather the Christingle service went very well, with the traditional candles replaced with the much safer glo-sticks. I believe also that Dorothy and her grand-daughter put up a spectacular Christmas tree. I was laid low with a very nasty bug that made me miss Christmas entirely, but I want to say a big `thank you` to those who, risking infection themselves, got me prescriptions, brought me meals, and generally made sure I was all right.

I`ve been asked to make a note about the food bank. Its remit is wider than I thought and we are particularly asked to donate toiletries, especially to meet the needs of babies and young mothers. At Waterhouses we have a big yellow bin at the back of the church.

Jesus may have lived for thirty years but from the end of Christmas to the start of Lent is not a lot more than thirty days. The first of five Lent lunches arranged by Waterhouses is on Wed 21st Feb at 11.30 at the Woodland Road community centre. The Lent courses start even earlier, Thurs 15 February at 2pm at St Andrews Methodist Church Langley Park and Tues 20 Feb at 7pm at All Saints vicarage.

It has been suggested that we have a bin of road salt outside the church to salt from the road to the entrance so ideas for that are welcome.

It`s snowing again, never mind, Spring`s coming.

At the rear of the church there is a children's area. You’ll find toys, games, a range of books, lots of paper and colouring pencils. The area is there for children and parents to use if they wish during the services.

Volunteers are needed to help clean our church and the occasional polishing of all the brass!

Please contact Reverend Peers, Mr. Norman Emery or Mrs. Sandra Hutchinson if you are in a position to help.

Thank you
